Reuters reports that gig workers in the US who were only recently included in the federal government’s coronavirus stimulus bill to receive unemployment benefits may have a hard time accessing the funds due to documentation issues.
Unlike full-time employees, gig workers do not receive wage and tax forms so they cannot provide evidence of income, documentation usually needs to claim unemployment benefits.
At the time of this report, more than a dozen U.S. states contacted by Reuters said they could not provide answers to the gig workers about their options until federal guidelines were published.
